The science behind nutrition

I love science and learning about systems and networks biology or how certain things we ingest affect our bodies. If you are familiar with Dr. Eric Berg, he does a lot of work on this.

After recovering from several concussions and struggling with my memory, the only thing that has saved me has been nutrition. I have made a point of being conscious about what I eat for cognitive performance and listening to my body in terms of how things make me feel. I’m far from perfect and still get it wrong but I’m getting better at figuring out my own needs and would say I feel really good for being 39 years old. Intuitive eating takes practice and really getting in tune with yourself, which can be really hard for busy people that are always eating on the go or emotional eating. This is why I’m excited about the latest technology with nutrigenomics, as now we get to take the guesswork out of what works and doesn’t work for your specific needs.

While I’m fairly new to the world of genetic testing, I’m really excited to learn more and discover my own needs and to help others. That is why I have partnered with myDNA to offer genetic testing for nutrition to everyone. This is a game changer as I am unlocking a whole new level of effectiveness to my coaching!

NutritionEd defines nutrigenomics or nutritional genomics as the study of the relationship between nutrients, diet, and gene expression. It explores how genes and diet together may affect a person’s health and risk of developing diseases. Basically, what we eat turns on or off our predisposed genetics to disease. How cool is that?!

Working with myDNA and Gene by Gene, I can now provide my clients with a comprehensive health report that covers 92 genes! This report covers everything from digestion, energy, hormones, stress and cognitive performance, inflammation and longevity, athletic performance, DNA protection and repair and detoxification.

For instance, digestion testing will give you insights into macronutrient requirements, weight loss factors, Vitamin C absorption, ketosis and fasting.
